FOR THE FIRST TIME THE FULL STORY OF THE URSULINE SISTERS OF MOUNT SAINT JOSEPH

The Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph have called the western Kentucky community of Maple Mount their home since 1874. They have taught thousands upon thousands of students, reinforcing rural communities across the country with education and faith in God. They did this by reimagining how one lives religious life while overcoming obstacles of poverty, deprivation, and changes in the Catholic Church that led to declining membership. They have persevered by living the words of their founder, Saint Angela Merici, to “have hope and firm faith in God.”

Theirs is the story of five brave Sisters who ventured on a flatboat into a wilderness to operate a school for girls. It tells of the courage it took to form their own community, and to make the arduous journey across America to serve where they were needed.

It describes the opening of countless schools, a four-year college, and a retreat center when there was no one else to do what had to be done.

It is a story that continues to be written to this day.
