When I started this book, I believed that Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage would be extended by the Florida Legislature this year. PIP is discussed in detail at Section 1 of this Guide. PIP has been a part of Florida Automobile Insurance law for over 30 years and I believed the Legislature would continue it. After getting the proof of this Guide back, the Florida Legislature’s normal session had ended and PIP had NOT been extended. As I write this, a special session dealing with property tax relief in Florida has just occurred. PIP coverage was not addressed in the special session. At this time, the future of PIP is in doubt and it is currently set to sunset (expire) on October 1, 2007. Therefore, unless another special session occurs prior to October 1, 2007 PIP will sunset and you will need to purchase other coverage to do what PIP currently does.
